Inklings // July 2025

I'm back with another inklings! (the rules for linking up are  here ) This month, the prompt was: A sword dueling scene in book or film. As soon as I read this, I thought of the dueling scene from The Princess Bride. Here it is: And  here  is a link in case the video doesn't work.  This whole film is so iconic, and this is one of my favourite scenes from it. It also has several very quotable lines in it ("Get used to disappointment" is a good one!) Opinions are wildly divided on this film, I know: some people love it, others hate it! How do you feel? Do let me know in the comments!

Top Ten Period Drama Costumes

It's been way too long since I've done a blog post (note to self: don't start a blog the week before you move house!) and, because of moving, I still don't have time to do a terribly long or thought-out post. So, I've done a round-up of my ten favourite costumes from period dramas. It's in ascending order, starting with my least favourite. There are some dresses that I love but couldn't find any pictures of so had to miss out, but anyway, here we go!                                            10. Lizzie Bennet, Pride and Prejudice (2005) I'm not a massive fan of the 2005 Pride and Prejudice , but I really like this dress! I don't know why particularly... it's just so simple and elegant I guess.  9. Emma,  Emma  (2009) I love the colour of the coat! The hat is also a very nice shape - a bit different to the normal bonnet. I don't like the dress ...

I have just linked up to do this for the first time, which I am very exited about! The rules are here , and the prompt for this month is " A scene with running water in book or film ". One of the first things I thought of when I read this was the destruction of Isengard from   the film of  The Lord of the Rings . Here it is: I love this scene - it's so satisfying to watch! Though I have to confess that Treebeard wasn't at all like how I'd imagined him, the directors having selfishly neglected to consult me before making the film!

Good Morning!

Hello there! Welcome to my blog! I'm Caroline Bingley, and I'm a Catholic who enjoys painting, cardmaking, and crochet. I also love reading, although I can truthfully say that "I am not a great reader, and I have pleasure in many things.” My other hobbies include playing the recorder, baking and gardening. I aspire to be very good at sewing, and love looking at patterns and planning all the things I'm going to make "when I have time". As well as doing my hobbies, I also enjoy spending my free time going hiking with my family and watching films. Expect to see my ramblings on all these things, film and book reviews and more! In case you're wondering why I chose the name Caroline Bingley, it was because when I was trying to come up with something with my sister, we saw this picture, and it reminded us of ourselves when we're satisfied with an idea: And, as I'm the younger one, it just made sense for me to be Caroline!
